Hello!
My name is Courtney Kowalczyk and I am a Limited License Psychologist here at Horizons. I joined the Horizons family in 2005 and have loved the journey my life has taken ever since. I have the privilege of working with individuals and families impacted by neurodevelopmental disorders and mental health difficulties every day and I am very passionate about the work that I do.
I would like to share with you a little bit about myself. I hold Bachelors and Masters degrees from Grand Valley State University with emphasis on psychology, special education, and early childhood education. I also have a Doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Walden University. I am a certified special education teacher with endorsements in the areas of cognitive impairment, early childhood, and early childhood special education. I have teaching experience with children of all ages with a variety of disabilities including cognitive impairment, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, executive function difficulties, physical impairments, health conditions, and speech and language impairments. I currently provide teacher consultant services and educator training to several school districts. I became an RDI® Program Certified Consultant in 2007 and remained certified until 2011.
During my years as a special education teacher in the public school system I came across many different program options for children and families with special needs; however, when I was introduced to family-based developmental models of treatment, it became more and more clear to me the impact that this type of program could have on children and adults with neurodevelopmental disorders and their families. I decided to change my career path to private practice, and it has made such a tremendous impact on myself, my family, and the families I work with! I am very blessed to have such a wonderful husband who has supported my career path and education every step of the way. Together we have two sons whom we love watching grow and develop every day! Having a family has made me realize even more the importance of relationships and quality of life, which is what we strive to improve through our work at Horizons.
