Horizon’s “Awesome” Chow
August 2, 2010
At Horizons we are always trying to adapt recipes to make them allergy free for our clients and students. In this weeks featured recipe, we used the recipe for Puppy Chow and made it dairy and gluten free. We hope you enjoy it as much as our camp kids did! To quote one of our campers, it is “Awesome!”
1 cup unsweetened cocoa
¾ cup sugar
¾ cup butter flavored shortening
5 tablespoons of soy butter
1 cup peanut butter or sun butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
12 ox box of Crispix cereal
16oz package powdered sugar
- In a sauce pan mix cocoa, sugar, shortening, and butter together over medium heat until shortening and butter is melted.
- Add peanut butter or sun butter and vanilla to the chocolate sauce and stir until the peanut butter or sun butter is melted.
- In a large bowl or 2 gallon bag pour the chocolate sauce over the cereal. Stir until cereal is well coated.
- Pour powdered sugar over chocolate coated cereal and coat well.
