Hi Everyone!
Just a quick note from me this week, as I’m in a hurry to get this edition finished and off to your inboxes! Erin’s article this week on nonverbal communication is fabulous, and I know you will find it an excellent resource to spread the word about the communication needs of individuals with autism and related impairments. If you’ve got a story to share about how you have been using nonverbal communication effectively with your child or student, please share it with me through email. I’ll feature them in an upcoming edition!
Check out the calendar at the bottom – lots of great stuff happening around here! Enjoy your week!
Looking to the horizon,

Return Pop Bottles!
Gather all of your pop bottles and bring them back to the store to be recycled. Take turns putting the pop bottles in the machine until all the pop bottles are gone. For variation, trying changing the way you hand the bottles, put them in the machine, how many you hand each time, etc. When you’re finished, decide together how to spend the money!

Nonverbal Communication: What’s it all about?
By: Erin Roon, MA CCC-SLP
Communication is critical to continued human development throughout our life span. It is what allows us to share thoughts, feelings, wonderings, and knowledge with others. Whether you are a verbal or nonverbal communicator, the vast majority of communication we do is through nonverbal channels.
So if nonverbal communication makes up a substantial portion of our communicative experience, what does it involve? Many of us associate facial expression and gestures with nonverbal communication, but these are not the only two types involved. There are, in fact, eight different types of nonverbal communication:

Do Something Daily Calendar
Do you dread hearing your child complain, “I’m bored”? Struggle to think of something fun you can do together? Have trouble squeezing one-on-one time with her into your day?
That’s why we created the Do Something Daily Calendar. The Calendar offers a daily dose of inspiration and ideas for spending time together—whether you have 60 seconds or 60 minutes.
$19.95 (Per Calendar) Calendars are assembled by clients in our EmployAbilities program. $1.00 from every calendar will be donated to FARR.
