A Note From NicoleNicole Beurkens

Hi Everyone!

We’re in our last week of summer camp here at Horizons, and the kids are enjoying a week of wet-and-wild fun.  It’s been an awesome summer with the kids, and we’ve enjoyed having so many new faces join us each week.  We’ve got some plans in the works for a week of Family Camp next year.  Stay tuned for details!  Thank you to all the families who shared their children with us this summer – we’ll miss them!

Michelle’s feature article this week picks up where she left off a few weeks ago with documenting her son’s development.  In it she shares observations and milestones from the third month of his life.  I love this series she is writing, as it is a great reminder of the amazing journey of human development.  For those who are struggling with how to tackle their child’s developmental challenges, the information in this article will help you get perspective on how important the early months are in laying the foundations for all future development.

We continue to receive rave reviews for our new Parent Success cards, so make sure to check them out below.  They’ll provide some daily inspiration and reminders of what to focus on with your child.  We’re almost out of the original amount we had shipped to us—but more are on the way!  Once you get them home and are using them, drop me a note and let me know how you like them.  I love getting feedback from all of you!

Looking to the horizon,

Picnic in the Park

Picnic at the Park!

Everyone can help pack a picnic meal!  Decide what type of sandwiches to make and what type of fruit, crackers, chips, or other treats you want to bring.  Once all the decisions are made, work together to make the sandwiches and wash/cut up the fruit.  Pack it all up and go to your favorite park to enjoy some food and fun together!

A Journey through Infant Development: The Third Month

By: Michelle VanderHeide

I continue to be amazed by the huge strides that my little baby boy is making. Child development happens so quickly! When I see an infant who is younger than my little guy, I realize just how much he has grown in such a short time. He’s stronger, has better vision, and definitely knows when he’s been left alone! As you read through the new developments he has made, pay attention to whether these are things you see in your child. Are any of them missing?
