A Note From NicoleNicole Beurkens

Hi Everyone!

As I write this, I’m in Houston with Courtney and Erin attending the CORE Approach Program Annual Conference.  We’ve enjoyed a few days of reconnecting with colleagues, spending time with the families in attendance, and presenting on various topics.  There have been some new lectures by Dr. Gutstein surrounding dynamic intelligence and education.  One of the highlights has been the presentation by Drs. Peter and Jessica Hobson on their innovative autism research.  We got to hear more about the study they are conducting with the data we collected over the past few years at Horizons.  They are doing some really important work in the area of autism and remediation, and it was a wonderful opportunity to meet them in person!

Last week, Courtney gave you some ideas for making simple variations to the day.  This week, she is providing you with some activity ideas for you and your children.  Have fun exploring some new activities together, or doing things you haven’t done in a while.

I’m so excited to let you know that our new Parent Success Cards product is now available!  They look great and the motivating messages provide reminders for effective parenting.  These were originally designed for CORE Approach parents, but are fabulous for any parents.  They will help you remember the important “big picture” concepts you need to keep in mind as you live life with your children.  We debuted them at the Annual Conference and they received RAVE reviews from the parents and professionals in attendance.  Check them out here!

Looking to the horizon,

Idea of the Week
Ants on a Log

Ants on a Log!

This is a great summer snack!  Family members can assist with washing the celery, spreading the peanut butter on the celery, and placing raisins on top of the peanut butter.  Think about other food items could be used instead of celery, peanut butter, and raisins.  Can you come up with new names for your creations?  Get creative with the new food choices!
