Erin Roon, MA CCC-SLP

RDI® Certified Consultant and Speech Language Pathologist

My Name is Erin and I am one of the RDI® program certified consultants as well as the speech/language pathologist on staff. I have a great family support system and I love spending time with my mom and sister. We enjoy traveling together around the U.S. I also enjoy card making with my sister and I spend a lot of my personal time reading. I love going to the movies and getting together with friends for “game nights.” I have a family member with an autism spectrum disorder and one with a developmental disability, which gives me some personal experience with the day-to-day difficulties our families face.

In addition to my RDI® certification I have a master’s degree in speech/language pathology and hold a Michigan teaching certificate. I have been working with families in the RDI® program for close to 2 years and have been practicing speech/language pathology for 12+ years. I have worked in the public school system for 12 years as a speech/language pathologist and autism teacher consultant. This fall I made the decision to go part time in the school system remaining the autism teacher consultant and part time at Horizons working with additional families in the RDI® program. This has turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made and I cannot wait to be at Horizons full time starting in June 2008.

Autism became a passion of mine approximately 7 years ago and I have been learning ever since. I can’t believe how lucky I was to have Nicole introduce me to RDI®. The improvements and relationships that we see develop on a daily basis is worth every moment that is spent planning and working with each family. In all of my years of working with children on the autism spectrum I have not seen anything that makes this kind of impact for the children and families as RDI® does.

In addition to working with families through the RDI® program I also have the great pleasure of working with children in need of speech and language services and feeding disorders. I am trained in the SOS approach to feeding and enjoy seeing children progress in this area as well. I am also available to support families who have chosen home-schooling for their child.

I encourage and invite those of you who are interested in finding out more about the programs we have to offer to visit the rest of our sight or set up an appointment to speak with one of us. We would love to have you join our Horizons family. Next to my own family I couldn’t ask for better to people to spend my time with and call my family.

My best,
