Dear Current and Future Families,
Welcome to the Horizons website! My name is Courtney Kowalczyk and I am the Supervisor of Instruction and an RDI® Program Certified Consultant. I joined the Horizons family over 3 years ago and I thoroughly enjoy the work I do here!
I would like to share with you a little bit about myself. I hold Bachelors and Masters degrees from Grand Valley State University with emphasis on psychology, special education, and early childhood education. I am a certified special education teacher with endorsements in the areas of cognitive impairments, early childhood, and early childhood special education. I have teaching experience with children with a variety of disabilities, including cognitive impairments, autism, physical impairments, health conditions, and speech and language impairments.
During my years in the public school system I came across many different program options for children and families with special needs; however, when I was introduced to the RDI® Program in 2006, it became more and more clear to me the impact that this program could have on children and adults with autism and their families. I decided to begin my RDI® Program Consultant Training in January of 2007 and have thoroughly enjoyed it every step of the way. RDI® has made such a tremendous impact on myself and the families I work with. I have been very blessed to have such a wonderful and supportive husband who has supported my desires to help families affected by autism and other neurological impairments. We thoroughly enjoy spending time with our young son who amazes us every day. Having a family has made me realize even more the importance of relationships and quality of life, which is what we strive for in RDI®.
